Response to Laser History Project Survey, 1957-1988.

Two letters to Joan Bromberg, director of the Laser History Project, in which Wieder offers criticism of Bromberg's article on laser history and discusses his contribution to the development of the ruby laser, including his research in optical pumping, optical energy funneling effect, and the identification of ruby as the appropriate material for optical pumping in solids. File also includes documents from Westinghouse Laboratories in East Pittsburgh regarding solid state masers using modified optical pumping; correspondence with Theodore Maiman; a technical report from Westinghouse on optical pumping in solids, pulsed light sources, and maser studies; and a technical report on optical saturation of magnetic resonance.
